Mooresville Elkin & Southern Railway LLC was filed with the North Carolina Secretary of State on April 24, 2026 (Cert. C202611400011-1) and certified May 12, 2026. The federal Employer Identification Number was issued April 28, 2026, and a Notice of Intent to Participate has been filed with the Surface Transportation Board. The railroad is presently pre-operations, working toward the inaugural Phase I service — the Salisbury Limited — a regional connector between Charlotte, Salisbury, and Mooresville.

The Vision

Beauty, Restored to the Rail

The Mooresville Elkin & Southern is a heritage railroad in the making — built upon the architecture, the craft, and the dignity of the years between 1860 and 1945. It is being built slowly, faithfully, and entirely by hand.

Every locomotive carries the name of someone loved. Every train is a letter written in steel. The railroad begins in North Carolina, and it intends to serve the South.

“A cathedral on rails.”
